  • What’s Best…Adding RAM or Upgrading Video Card?

I’m starting to produce 4k footage in FCPX and my Mac Pro (2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 14mb RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB) is really starting to bog down. What would be my best bet to speed things up, more ram or a better video card?

If a better video card’s the answer, what would you recommend?

    Thank you!

They would both help. As would a fast RAID for your footage. But if your project’s bogging down, you’re best off using an offline/online workflow, especially with 4K.

Not sure which year your Mac is but if it’s a 3,1 or later you can ad an off the shelf nVidia card such as the GTX 760 without killing your power supply. Or you could opt for dual 5770’s as Barefeats says this work well with FCPX 10.1…
