  fcp x scopes settings

  I noticed in a Larry Jordan tutorial that he used the waveform scope with Luma and Histogram with RGB overlay. He used the histogram for black/shadow levels (0) only and then waveform scope for white/highlights levels (100) and mid tones.

  When setting exposure levels using the histogram and waveform scopes for black levels, why is there a difference between Luma vs RGB overlay? I find that if I set shadow so that I am at 0 level with nothing below and then switch to Histogram and RGB overlay that there is still some colors below 0.
  I can, if I like how the shadow setting looks on the broadcast monitor, use global to raise everything to just over 0, then adjust the white levels and lastly mid tones.
