    Hello,

Im trying to make our holiday snowboard video.
I have loads of footage and im trying to do something nice with it.

I wanted to make a clip where it starts with a fullscreen video.
Then from the side another clip slides in covering about 1/5 of the screen. After that another slides in from the bottom, showing a total of 3 different clips seperated by a while frame.

My problem is, that the clip sliding in from the side, does not need to show the whole clip, just the part i masked.

I precomposed the clip sliding in from the side.
I used motion tracking to track a friend snowboarding, then i applied the tracking to a null object and created a black solid with a rectangle mask.
I parented the black layer with the mask to the null object.

So far so good, the mask follows my friend als he is snowboarding downhill, with two black sides.
But now when i want to slide this clip into the other one, it still shows the black sides.
I just want it to show the part where i applied the rectangular mask.

Im probably making a n00b mistake, but hey… all guru´s were n00bs once.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks in Advance.

I’m not following your workflow very well. Perhaps you should use your masked layer as a track matte [link]?

I know, my workflow is a bit messy.

I basically have a clip of a friend snowboarding downhill.
Now i want a clip from another friend to slide in from the side.
I just dont want the whole clip, just part of it.
I can do this with a mask, but the problem is, the friend in the second clip is moving around the screen, so i want to track him so he stays in the centre of the clip.

Once he is in the centre i want to use a mask to cut out all the excess footage.
Can someone help me with this?

It sounds like you’re basically there. It seems to me like maybe instead of using a masked solid you need to make a solid the size that you want your selection of video to be, parent that to your null instead of the frame you basically created with your masked solid, and then take Michael’s suggestion and make it a track matte for the footage.
