I feel like I’m probably missing something basic with track mattes or blend modes or something… basically I want to apply a blur (or similar) effect to all the layers under the top one, but I want it to come in gradually, so it has to be keyframeable.
Short of positioning the layers in 3D and changing the focal point, is there a simple way of achieving this type of effect?

Are the layers supposed to be 3d? If not, just add an Adjustment Layer with Fast Blur applied to that, and animate the blur amount.
