  • How often do you run Diskwarrior?

Posted by Chris Stevens on September 6, 2013 at 10:19 am

I run Diskwarrior, on both the iMac internal & Thunderbolt external media RAID, once a week to keep things running fast & smooth. Is this too much? I’d appreciate opinions.

Only of there’s a dire problem, like a disk won’t boot, so it’s very very rare.

I never use it on a raid, as it has done more harm than good.

Don’t take this as a slight to Diskwarrior, it works well, but I use it for disaster recovery or when things really aren’t running correctly. I don’t use it for maintenance, but I know many people do.

Alsoft says once a month is fine.

Like Jeremy, I use it when something’s not right. I mean to use it once a month for prevention, but I usually forget. When needed, it’s indispensable.

[John Fishback] ” I mean to use it once a month for prevention, but I usually forget. When needed, it’s indispensable.”

I’m with John here. I try to use it every month on all my drives on all my computers, but it’s probably more like every 2 months. I’ve had major problems in the past that DiskWarrior “magically” fixed, so I’m big fan.

Like John, like Jeremy, I use it when needed. intending to run as maintenance but usually forget. I do have a pretty low tolerance when it comes to deciding if its needed.

After a few times needed I’m approaching clean install territory. I usually time it out so the clean install coincides with an OS or FCP update (after the update is “approved” of course).

I didn’t know it shouldn’t be run on RAIDs, I’d like to learn more about that.
