  • Trying to “Share” Interlaced 1920x1080i 29.97 file

Posted by Randy Burleson on September 3, 2013 at 8:09 pm

My project is 1920x 1080i 29.97 Interlaced. When I go to Share and then use my Compressor H.264 setting it always comes out progressive. I have tried fiddling with the frame control settings and turning frame control off or on and I can’t seem to figure out why I can’t get an interlaced file out of FCPX/Compressor.

I just want it to be an H.264 file that is 29.97 Interlaced HD 1920x1080i
but it always turns out Progressive! frustrating… What the heck am I doing wrong?

I haven’t had success with this. I’ve actually exported uncompressed or ProRes and then used QT7 Pro to create the proper H264 file. It appears to be an issue with how H264 files are handled by Compressor 4 and FCP X. Basically it’s messed up.

I haven’t had time to try this, so this may be a stupid suggestion.

Create a new H.264 setting in Compressor and in Frame Controls set Output Fields to “Top First”. Then you save this as a custom preset and it will appear as a new Compressor setting in FCPX. Shouldn’t this do the trick?

Ronny, Yeah… you would think, But no.
I already did this and no matter what I do, I can’t get an Interlaced 1920x1080i H.264 file

hmmm… I just thought of something… an HD interlaced file should be 59.94 to be interlaced… right?
Is it even possible to get 29.97 interlaced HD H.264 file?
