  First bigger project on FCPX

  Hi,

  I am about to take my first bigger commercial job into FCPX.
  The material delivered comes from the Canon C100 recorded in C Log.
  How do I ingest these materials the best way into FCPX?
  I’d prefer transcoding them, like in the old FCP, even if it can handles the files natively, since
  I always prefer editing in an editing codec, not a compressed one.

  Just download the free Canon codec plugin. Don’t start without it! My partner didn’t realize one was needed, started a project, and then a ways in had big performance issues. Plugin solved it, but he needed to re-import.

  We use the C300 and love the image! Got a shoot next week with it all rigged out; Steadicam, wireless focus & video, Zeiss CP2 primes….. yummm!

  When I installed it, how does it work, since in FCPX is not log&transfer window?

  Make sure you are using the right one- it’s not the FCP7 plugin (no plugins specifically made for FCP7 work in X so that’s always a clue).

  Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X 2.1.1

  That would enable you to view Canon footage directly in the Import window.

  Thanx. How does it work then exactly? Is there sort of an import and transfer window, or after installing the plug in, I just browse to the folder of my Canon Cards and simply import it over the Event Window?

  Once the plugin is installed, you should be able to just bring the footage in using the FCPX media import window.

  Following the link, you have to select the drop down menus for OS and version, then select software, then choose the XF Plugin for FCPX at the bottom.

  Honestly, I’d recommend doing some actual training in FCPX before diving in. RippleTraining.com, MacProVideo.com, and Lynda.com all have great training. It’s very different from 7, but once you learn it properly, it’s both faster and more powerful than 7.

  By the way, which one from Ripple Training you suggest? There is a lot of different ones.
  Any tip for a good general foundation one!
