I’m trying to track a bus ad along a video of a moving bus. I’m using the perspective corner pin method in the track motion palette. My motion target is the bus ad. I apply the track, but it does seem to be working. The ad always seem to drift. I thought this was going to be easy. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way of tracking an image over a moving bus?

    Thanks..giving hangover.

Drift or shake a bit? If it’s a subtle shake, it’s the AE tracker, it’s anything but smooth. Are your tracking markers good or are you saying the track markers are fine but the layer keeps moving on you?

Another note: I haven’t used the AE tracker in a long time, but most trackers allow you to track a changing target. In most cases, this is not what you want because as the target mutates, AE recalculates what it is that it’s tracking and this can cause a drift from the original source point. I don’t have AE in front of me but see if there is the target change below a threshold option and disable it if it’s on.

Have you played with the sub-pixel sampling settings? Other than that, I’m assuming it simply is the motion blur in your footage that is making the tracker go adrift. Try to eliminate it using filters and effects and increase contrast on your footage (in a sub comp and then use this sub-comp as the footage layer). If you have 16000 something bucks to spend, get Monet. It’s specially made for this type of ad-replacement. ;O)

Man, Monet is awesome! But 16k is redonkulous for tracking software of anykind. I could understand 3 -5k maybe but 16? Just like Synth Eyes and 3D trackers, some programmer is going to use the same algorithms to simulate Monet and sell it for a few hundred bucks I predict.

I appreciate all the insight. I’ll have to look at everything you mentioned on Monday. Thank you ahead of time. If I have anymore question, hopefully you will be available.

Sometimes with motion blur you have to track partially by hand. You might spend hours trying to get the perfect track with a tracker when you could just fix the frames that don’t work by hand in less time. Hopefully you are not dealing with too many frames.

    cheers
