  Sony PMW-EX1R Footage Import Issues

  I have footage shot on the Sony PMW-EX1R which usually is imported straight from the camera as .mxf files. Then I convert the .mxf to .mp4 and import that footage into FCPX. This time however I rushed when importing the footage, selected only the .mov codec to import, returned the camera, and now only have the videos in .mov format. The .mov footage plays fine on VLC but on Quicktime and once imported into FCPX is completely green and silent. Am I screwed? Why would the camera shoot in both .mov and .mxf? Is the .mov just a sick joke-codec to torment me?

  This is an FCPX question. You’ll get more help if you post in that actual forum. This forum is for legacy FCP1-7.

  But in order to help, it sounds like you need to download the plugin for XDCAM inside of FCPX. Follow the Apple Help page on this: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4724?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

  If you still have problems you can download the free 30 day trial of Adobe CS6 and convert your footage to ProRes using either Premiere Pro or Media Encoder. Both will handle XDCAM without plugins.

  I’m not sure I understand the reasoning behind your workflow.
  I use Sony EX1. It creates a BPAV folder.
  I use the Sony FCPX import plugin.
  It imports and wraps to .mov
