  Event/project workflow question

  I’ve just finished a week of location shooting for client. the clips from this shoot will be used to create four separate educational videos dealing with a similar device manufactured by the client. Each individual video product will use its own footage from the shoot, Although there may be a few instances where common background footage is used in multiple products.

  My question is, am I better off dividing the clips for each product into individual events and then creating individual projects for each event and just duplicating any common footage like logos or background scenes to each event or is it better to clump all the footage for all four projects into one event and then create separate projects from that event,

  Example 1:
  Event one-Project one

  Event two-Project two

  Event three-Project three

  Event four -Project four

  Or?
  Example 2:
  Event one-project 1234

  I’ve been using final cut pro since version 1 but this will be only my second major project with Final Cut Pro X. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  No need for seperate events. I would simply create different keyword collections for the 4 products. You can also create and stack folders in the event.

  You can have shots in different keyword collections, so the factory-overview can be in every product’s collections or you make a keyword “general overviews”. Pretty much depends on the footage and your personal preference. But I would keep it in one event and if you shoot a fifth product with the same distributionidea I would drop that into the event as well.

  There are two thIngs to consider, editing and archiving.

  Separate events might be easier editing if there’s not a lot of crossover with your media. I do that with my work projects, and have an event called “elements” where I place common things.

  If you’re going to archive the projects, and it makes more sense to have them separate (smaller folders on your archive drive, the ability to restore one video without resurrecting one huge mess…) then you might be happier with separate events.

  I like keeping things separate so I can hide or remove stuff more easily.

  Either way, it’s not a biggie. Both ways will work for you.
