With FCP 7 you can turn off the audio channels before inserting video into the timeline. How can I achieve this through FCPX without having to right click > detach audio > delete?

You can choose to only edit down the video or the audio.

You can use the shortcut Shift+1 for Audio & Video, Shift+2 to only edit Video and Shift + 3 to only edit the audio in.
Or you can use the buttons, see screenshot.

    Grace,

You can always insert just the video (sans audio) when adding your clips to the storyline by marking your ‘i’s’ and ‘o’s’ and pressing SHIFT+2.

Otherwise, post insertion to storyline, highlight your clip in your storyline; open the inspector (CMD+4); switch to the AUDIO tab along the top and upchuck the box in the “Channel Configuration” section. (or move the slider down in the “Volume and pan” section at the top.

Those are the ones I use.

    Regards,

    Lawrence

    Hi

I am new to editing and are using FCP 7. I love it….and NO I don’t want to get FCPX.

I would like to insert video only on my timeline, but if I deselect the audio and insert my video the sync goes out??

What am I doing wrong….sorry this must seem a silly question to all you experts out there.

    Help
