  ProRes 422 (HQ)

  Hey Guys,

  Big problem…

  I have a finished film in FCPX which is about 86 minutes long, but the problem is that I didn’t select the clips to be converted to ProRes 422 (HQ) when I started. This is a real problem as I need the film to be an Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) file, before I take it to be colour graded.

  Now that I have finished editing, is it too late? Can it only be done in the beginning? Do I need to restart the whole editing process again or is there a way around it? Can I just export it as ProRes 422 (HQ) or is that not the same thing?

  I’m really afraid that I’m going to have to start all over again because of that one detail, so PLEASE tell me that is not the case. There is a deadline for this and it just wouldn’t be possible to restart.

  There must be a way. Please, please, please help!

  Don’t Panic!!

  On the top ribbon of the FCP display go to Share>Export then select ProRes as your your codec and your location. You may also export to Compressor.

  Thanks, just doing that now. Is there any way of converting my project to ProRes while still working on it?

  You could select all the clips in the event browser (not the story line) and then right click and select ‘transcode media’. This will allow you to select either proxy or optimum (ProRes) conversion.
