OK. I admit it. I do not like to mix in my NLE.

Can anyone help with the best way to get audio of FCP X as on OMF file with handles and into LOGIC?

    I know I can:

    – export roles (no handles) roles with handles would be a godsend FCPX team.
-export and XML to FCP 7, open the project in FCP 7 and export an OMF from there (kinda ass backwards)

so what is the elegant solution right now?

    David

PS: It might be nice if Logic X was released and had a very easy way to send between FCP X and LOGIC.

This app will do what you are looking for, X2Pro. It’s $99 in the App Store.

Apparently Logic can’t read the AAF’s from this

Have you done this? or read that it is possible?

My research tells me that this app DOES NOT produce files that Logic can open.

I’m sorry, my mistake. You are right. I jumped the gun on that one. It’s just AAF for Pro Tools and not for Logic. I’m guessing Apple will address this with the upcoming updates to FCPX and Logic X. Maybe in June…?

It seems that Logic cannot handle embedded audio in an AAF.
Reading their forum, X2Pro guys plan to add an option for referenced audio with their AAF.

For now, AAF files from X2Pro can be opened in ProTools and in Nuendo.

I wonder, can you import the AAF in to Soundtrack Pro, and then go to Logic?

Nope, same limitation about embedded AAF in STP.
( I had tested two OMF files from Automatic Duck plugin, one with embedded audio and one with externalized audio : STP only opened externalized one)

Thanks, Fabien. I don’t have X2Pro yet, so I am guessing.

    What about Audition?

[Fabien Daguerre] “( I had tested two OMF files from Automatic Duck plugin, one with embedded audio and one with externalized audio : STP only opened externalized one)”

    OMF or AAF?

I open embedded OMFs in STP.

Well, neither OMF or AAF with embedded audio exported with AD plugin opened in STP when I had tested it from FCPX 10.0.2…

But you can get a sample X2Pro AAF for testing on their forum :
    https://x2pro.net/Media-and-Formats/60-Sample-AAF-created-by-X2Pro.html

Auditions must be finalized first before exporting the XML to X2Pro.

A few others things good to know :
    – For now, X2Pro exports audio with infinite handles. That means that all your audio source is exported. So AAF files can be pretty big. But they plan to add an option to consolidate audio files.
    – Audio Roles in Final Cut Pro X are converted into Pro Tools tracks. The tracks in Pro Tools are named upon the role you assigned (track dialogue, track sfx, track french…)
    – Multicam is perfectly supported.
    – Compound clips are supported, but I haven’t tested it.

And FYI, take a look at this feature request that I find very very very interesting.
