  • FCPX Event Error – “Element asset does not carry attribute src” ???

Posted by Adam Helwig on May 7, 2012 at 10:22 pm

    Hey everyone,

I have an event that displays the yellow exclamation mark like something is wrong or missing. However, all the media is fine and I cannot find the problem. So, I exported an XML of the event and tried to reimport the XML to see if that would solve the problem and upon import I got the error message stating “Element asset does not carry attribute src”.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be or why my event displays a yellow exclamation warning? I would try opening the XML file itself in a text editor or something but I have no idea what to look for. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I had the same issue and this is what I did discovered.

It is important to note that I was seeing the message two times. This is an important note.

So first, I opened the fcpxml file with a text editor, and and scrolled through the document. The fcpxml is structured with RESOURCES and CLIP tags inside a parent PROJECT. If you look inside the resources you will find a collection of ASSET tags. I began by looking for ASSET nodes that did not have a “src” attribute, and I found exactly 2. (NOTE: same number of warning messages displayed) I removed these two clips, and tried to import again.

The second import threw a new error, telling me that there where unmatched clip nodes, and the error also displayed the corresponding ID value. With this ID value I went back to my modified fcpxml and removed all the reference clips with the corresponding ID. And returned to FCP to try the import again.

    It worked.

    I hope that helps you.
