Video Grid / Alignment
just did a search for video alignment and video grid, and didn’t come up with any threads. My apologies if I didn’t search hard enough.
So, I’m working on this talking heads thing, and I’d love to do some nice effects with 4 / 9 / 12 videos going at once (at the end, or at the beginning).
I’m able to do things like resize a video to 25%, and move the file up by hand, then resize another, etc etc.. But seems hard to select the vid and change the alignment with the arrows (for example, side to side arrows affect the timeline playback, not the alignment of the vid).
Anyone have any tips on aligning a resized video within the canvas.
Or better still, any tips on fast ways to achiever these kind of effects? (like a fcpx template or something)?
Last but least, any suggestions on using this technique in an interesting way (ie. more than just one small vid of the stack being key framed to expand etc etc) would also be much appreciated.

I haven’t used Motion very much, but if I were building something like you’re describing I would try to use Motion.

The grid generator I use is:

It’s free and very easy to use. You can adjust both the number of divisions, the thickness of the lines, and the colour of the lines.
They also have a plugin called DH Box which allows you to create moves – might be worth having a look at.
And as Richard Herd points out – this might be something that would be easier to accomplish in Motion.
