  FCPx Capture Problems with Canon XL2

  I am trying to capture footage from Mini DV tapes via a Canon XL2 into FCPx (10.0.3). I am running the software on Mac OSX, 2×2.66 Ghz 6 processor, 12GB memory. Some tapes capture/import correctly, but with another tape, FCPx is creating thousands of 3 frame clips. I would attempt to lay them all down sequentially in the timeline to see if they play smoothly, but it seems like FCP is so bogged down it won’t even let me do that. If I don’t eject the external hard drive (where the project is stored), I can’t even open Final Cut. It seems to work if I import into iMovie, however iMovie is creating .dv files. Not sure how that will effect the the quality when I mix it in final cut with the properly imported .mov files.

  I believe FCP is breaking the clips according to time-stamps, but I am not very familiar with why and need to find the best workflow for the Canon XL2. Any tips would be much appreciated!
