Problems importing from 5Dii to FCPX
More FCPX related problems.
Everything was so simple back with fcp7, transcoding was a dream.
Now, with X, I go to import from the camera… and the camera is not accessible in FCPX; neither via the usb to camera or when plugging the CF card into a card reader.Any advice as to how I can import via the camera similar to how you’d log and transfer clips back in FCP7?

Copy the .MOV clips off the card to a structure you like at the finder level – I create a folder per card etc.
Then use the IMPORT feature of FCPX – you have the option to link, copy and work natively and/or transcode. Be aware that the transcode will slow down other functions.

I use either Magic Bullet Grinder or MPEG Streamclip to import my DSLR footage from a copy of the CF card, converting them to Prores 422 as I go. Then I import the Prores files into FCPX.

Those are both seemingly good ways to do so. But I really liked how with 7, I could log each clip straight from the camera. Surely there’s a way I can do this within X simply, without having to import from my DSLR’s in an external program?

Sadly, no. I’ve seen suggestions that Apple may add support for Canon DSLRs in a future version but more likely it’s up to Canon to write the import plugin.

Problem, half solved.
Downloaded the same plug in which fixed problems when importing from a canon dslr to fcp7
Am now able to import from camera, but sadly, there’s no option (that I can see) to log the clips as you go.
Am I just overlooking something quite obvious, or does FCPX not have this function?
