I have FCPX open, and the project is done with any rendering and any other processes. I click the “speedometer” and it shows 100%, no processes running.

Bottom of MacBook Pro is smoking hot, fan is running and activity monitor shows CPU usage at 78% user and 21% system. it shows FCP using 520% of CPU – 71 threads and 2.19 GB of real memory.

When I quit FCP, it immediately goes back down to normal state.

Any ideas on if this is normal and what’s going on?

I asked this question recently as well.

No indication of anything happening in the background, yet my processor is cooking on all cores.

Closing FCPX and reopening seems to settle it down.

One of the little things we need to embrace about it.

If someone has an answer, I’ll give them a star!

Hey mark, curious if we have similar setup. R u running lion? Dual boot? Fcp7?

Ironically, I’ll be in Seattle next week on a shoot! 🙂 I was there years ago, looking forward to having some time to explore live music scene this time!

    Snow leopard.
    Single boot.
FCP7 installed on the same drive, as per Apple instructions for single boot.

I’m thinking about Lionizing my mac.
It’s tough to do when I’m happy with the way things are working.

except for the crazy fan-blowing mystery processing, which I assume happens in Lion as well.

[Mark Morache] “as per Apple instructions”

Do you have a link for this? I’m in a similar boat, but I didn’t know where was a “per apple” process.
