  • Order of Motion rig parameters does not carry over to FCPx

Posted by Imari Childress on February 14, 2012 at 8:46 pm

So, I create a generator in Motion 5 with about 4 rigs with 5 to 8 parameters in each rig. When I open the generator in fcpx and look at the parameters to adjust, they seem to be randomly placed (not reflecting the order I set up in Motion). It doesn’t seem to be grouped by type or alphabetically. A bit frustrating to use in practice because in Motion, I grouped the parameters in a way that made send to my work flow. Is this a bug?

    thx

I’ve never seen a bug like that. The rig position has never acted up with me and I use it a lot. The rigs are listed in order that they were published, but the order can be swapped around easily in the Project tab of the inspector.

Click the project layer and then click the published tab to see all your published properties in Motion. Grab any parameter and move it up or down until they are how you want it. You can also set their default values here as well. Save and return to FCPX.

If this doesn’t work for you, post pics of your published parameter tab in Motion and your inspector in FCPX.

Yes. I’ll post those pics ASAP as soon as I’m done cloning my drive. In the meantime, though… I tried rearranging the widgets. I even created several new rigs and dragged the widgets into them in hopes this would carry over to fcpx. I created a completely new generator to test and got the same results.

Running fcpx 10.0.3, motion 5.0.2 and latest lion version.

Ok. Here are the images showing the problem. I’ve never uploaded images here.. hope I did it right…

I don’t think I’ve uploaded images. Not sure what I’m doing wrong?

When you click the upload image icon (looks like a badly rendered box camera) and upload your image, it will show up in the upper right corner of the box. You then still have to click on it to get the embed link HTML. Copy the embed HTML and paste it into your reply.

The published order won’t corrspond to the order in the Layers menu. It is determined by the Project pane in the Inspector. Set your order there and you’ll be fine.

Yeah, what Simon said. Select the Project layer (above your rigs in the layers pane). Then select the Project tab and click the Publishing button. There you will see a list of your published rigs and parameters as they will be show in FCPX. Swap their position there by just grabbing and dragging where you want them.

Thanks a ton, Simon/Andy! I got it now. This will definitely shave some time making modifications in fcpx. (12 minute how to video with arrows and text moving everywhere – I was pulling my hair out!)
