    Good morning,

I need the videos that I’ve edited with FCP X to be viewable in windows media player, for our internal dealer network.

Based on the research I’ve done this morning, it looks like my options for conversion consist of:

    1. Quicktime Pro : $30
    2. Compressor: $50

Assuming either of these will allow me to convert the .mov files to .wmv or .mpg, which would you recommend?

I’m currently using handbrake to manage my file sizes. How will that interface with these options? Can I first convert the .mov to .wmv and then downsize it in handbrake? Will compressor simplify things?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Neither of those convert to .wmv without a plugin I’m afraid, here’s the one I use

I typically use Telestreams Episode to do WMV encodes – but you might try their much less expensive Flip for Mac software. It may use the same encoding engine, which is generally first rate.

(IIRC Flip for Mac was originally a Microsoft product, but Telestream acquired it and it’s been under their brand for a while now.)

    Good luck.

Thank you for the reply, folks. This is all a little muddled but…

I discovered that the last producer here already had flip4mac installed on this bay. I purchased QT pro and managed to convert my mov to wmv however, and I’m sure those familiar with this process know what I’m about to say, it’s only 30 seconds long.

Is this the limitation of QT pro, the reason I need to (correctly?) use another plug-in, or a settings issue that I haven’t stumbled upon yet? If it’s a plug-in issue, how exactly do I use the flip4mac plug-in correctly? When I run the program is just launches plain old quicktime which gives me no conversion options.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Follow up on this –

Along with – what I’ve now determined is – the free version of flip4mac, a program called Sorenson Squeeze was also installed on this machine. It seems to do exactly what I need to do.

    Thanks

There’s a free online conversion utility here:
