  • What is SUPPOSED to happen when sharing unrendered clips

I’m working my way into FCP X from FCP 7 and I unsure of what is supposed to happen when I share (export) a clip in the primary storyline that hasn’t been rendered. My expectation is that FCP X would do the same thing that legacy versions of FCP did: the un-endered portion of the clip being exported would read “unrendered” when the clip was played back.

I don’t completely trust my renderer indication bar so the test I’ve done, I take with a grain of salt. My experience to date has been that an unrendered clip when shared has its unrendered portions rendered leaving a clip that plays back without any unrendered warnings filling up the frame.

What should I expect to see? Has anyone else had a similar or different experience?

‘preciate your time and you insight.

I have exported un-rendered projects. It takes longer than exporting a rendered project which would indicate that it’s rendering as its exporting. No issues with the exported file.

I too have exported un-rendered projects, it is very fast for basic things like color correction and titles. So fast in fact, that I’ve turned off the background rendering and don’t bother manually rendering either. It’s working very well.

Chris that happens in FCP when the clip can’t be played in RT without rendering.
When the clip can be played in RT (even at lower quality or skipping frames), FC doesn’t shows the “Unrendered” warning graphic.
The clip is exported really fast but with that quality.
I guess that FCX always has some RT performance so never shows that graphic warning.
