• Apple Final Cut Pro

  The apple events effect

  Hi, this is my first post so be gentle. Brief background, I am an X camera operator and I am now moving into editing!

  My question is I have my first project and this entails combining PowerPoint and Video. Now I would like to do something similar to the apple events idea with the PowerPoint on one side and the video on the other with a slight twist to it. I have seen this done this before in Final Cut studio with the basic 3D effect.

  Now I could be wrong but I cant find this effect, would I need to do this in motion? If so any help would be great.

  All you need to do is have your gfx on the primary storyline and your video connected above it. Then select the video and in the inspector, resize the video down, position it where you like and adjust the Y rotation to give it a 3D “twist”.

  You can find rotation if you Show the details of the Transform tab in the Inspector – however it is Z rotation only which I don’t imagine is what you have in mind.

  If you could post a screen grab of what you are trying to emulate it might be easier to point you in the right direction. I, and others most notably Brendan Gibbons, have made a number of Templates that might do the trick.

  Or you could simply use the Distort tool to fake the effect.

  Strangely I thought you could adjust the Y rotation in the normal transform section of a video clip, but it looks like you can’t. You’ll need to build an effect in Motion to give you that ability, or else find someone like Simon or Brendon who’ve probably already built one.
