Do the extra cores in the server make up for the difference in GPU?
(2.7 GHz Mini dual-core i7 with AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory) VS (2.0 GHz Mini Server quad – core i7 with Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor and 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory).

Am I thinking about this configuration the right way? Is there
any overhead given that the mini will be a server?

    thanks,

    Tommo

This site has various benchmarks on various Macs, some with FCP X.

Which is the better trade off: the extra cores in the quadcorei7 mini server or a faster graphics of the non-server i7 mini.

I can’t offer a comparison but I can say that I’ve been pushing X pretty hard for a week on an iMac i7 and haven’t had a single crash or glitch.
Much of time it’s been running with Motion, PS and several other apps open.
I have several iMacs running in my studios and bang for the buck, they are the best systems I’ve ever run.
