Remove pulldown
Hi there. This morning I shot a sun-rise time-lapse on a Panasonic AG-HPX172EN. In 1080i/25p mode. This is a P2 card camera – no tape deck. The camera brochure states that “The AG-HPX170 series can record in 1080/25p (over 50i)”

The 1080 and 576 progressive recording systems convert
recordings to 50i in 25p shooting mode. The 25p shooting mode
uses 2:2 pulldown and performs 25p/50i conversion with
minimum image degradation when recording data is uploaded via
an IEEE 1394 interface to a compatible nonlinear editing system.
This lets you maintain superior image quality throughout the
production process.Before import FCPX shows an options screen with the option of Remove Pull down (among all the usual import options) Should I do this, what happens to my footage if I don’t?
The final cut manual says:
“Remove pulldown: Analyzes video clips and removes pulldown patterns.
Important: This option is only available when importing from a tape-based camera or device.”My camera does not have a tape deck so I’m a little confused (although I am importing ‘from tape’ by opening a card archive from the ‘import from tape’ screen
Can anyone explain why I would want to remove pulldown?

p.s. also in the import settings window the optimize media check box is checked but greyed out, I guess forcing me to optimize my media. Any ideas why this is?

I’m responding to this in the hope that someone might answer my query. I know it’s basic stuff that may take a while to explain but I’m a bit confused over this any help much appreciated.
