Keyboard shortcut issues – making timeline active and zoom to fit
Has anyone else had these issues and do you have a fix for them?
1 – When I’m in the event browser and I hit command 2 to make the timeline active, often the event browser remains active even after hitting command 2 a number of times. Even when I use the mouse and click on the timeline browser it still doesn’t become active. The only solution for me is to hit command 3 and then command 2 and then the timeline becomes active (sometimes I have to repeat command 3 then command 2).
2 – In the upgrade 10.0.1 using the zoom to fit command (shift z) does not fill out the full timeline maybe around 2/3 of it.I tried to see if these issues have already been posted but couldn’t find them, so apologies if I overlooked them.

I believe there is a bug that gets you stuck in the event browser. There have been times where I’ve used my trackpad to move the cursor to the timeline, and clicked to select it, then hit play only to find that I can’t get anything to play but the clip in the event browser. I’ll try the command 3/command 2 trick.
As for the timeline view, I’ve never had shift-z give me any less than 100% of my timeline. Is it possible that you may have changed your keyboard shortcut to something besides zoom to fit?
Look in the view menu, and go down to “zoom to fit”. It should have the Shift Z shortcut, and selecting it in the menu should make the entire timeline fit in the screen.

Thanks Mark, I’ve checked my keyboard settings and it doesn’t appear that I’ve remapped this shortcut and when I do zoom to fit through the menu it also only fits 2/3 of the timeline. I also trashed my preferences and restarted but that made no difference. Note that this bug only appeared after I upgraded to 10.0.1.

If I understand him correctly, Alex sees his whole timeline, but it is only taking up 2/3’s of the space available in the timeline window. I get the same behavior here.

Hi Alex,
I had a lot of weird things start to happen when I upgraded to 10.0.1. Difficulty in switching between the Event Browser and Timeline amongst them.
The far more serious fault was cmd Z, undo, not working. In fact as I slowly discovered from a point where cmd Z ceased to work nothing I did was saved at all.
I was in the middle of a job at the time and was reluctant to do anything dramatic apart from trashing the preferences.
So I learnt to work around even a problem as serious as that through constantly checking cmd Z.
What solved the problem, and what I recommend you do, is to completely trash the whole application and do a fresh install from the app store.
Everything started to work correctly again. Well in as much as FCP X works correctly.

Well, that would be different.
I wonder if there’s some gap at the end of the timeline. That would keep your timeline from filling the space.

It’s definitely been an issue for me. I toggle between CMD+1 and CMD+2 to re-establish the timeline as the active window. It’s definitely a bug.
As is the 2/3rd “fit to window”. I’ve noticed both problems in 10.0 and they haven’t been fixed in 10.0.1.

For me the timeline active issue was was in both 10.0 and 10.0.1 whereas the 2/3 zoom to fit only started in 10.0.1. I’m going to use Mark Dobson’s suggestion and do a complete reinstall and see if that fixes things.
