This is annoying. On a couple of different occasions, I’ll accidentally import some .mov files that I don’t want in my new event/project. But when I try to delete them, it says, “Media Moving to trash. This action cannot be performed while background tasks are running. Try again when background tasks have finished processing or after canceling them.”

So I know it’s doing background tasks to these clips that I don’t want in there. So I brought up the background tasks, and paused all of the background tasks and got this message. “Media moving to trash. One or more media files will be moved to the trash since the last reference to them is being deleted. External files remain where they are.”

So then I delete the files from background task list, and get this message again. “Media moving to trash. One or more media files will be moved to the trash since the last reference to them is being deleted. External files remain where they are.”

This is dumb. If I accidentally import some large files near the end of my project, am I essentially screwed as far as background tasks?

You could drill down in the finder and just trash those files – and worry about the icons in FCPX later…?

Yeh. I figured I could delete the source files. But it’s crazy that such a basic function such as deleting a clip from your event/bin/project has been hindered.

I don’t want to wait for transcode on a 12-minute clip that I don’t want in my project, anyway.

Makes me think I should still transcode in mpeg streamclip before import.
