Issues importing material into FCP X
This is my COW Blog! Not long after downloading FCP X I found that the newly added (imported from SD card ) material wasn’t being Analysed or Transcoded. After spending some time trawling the web I found no reports of similar problems. As the software is relative new this I suppose is to be expected. So while I still haven’t identified the problem and, I still have symptoms I have yet to resolve, I have however found a work around. So I have decided to share this here now, in case someone else should find themselves in a similar position.
If I imported form the SD card directly into FCP X it will not Anayyse or Transcode all of t eh material correctly. I say all because initially it starts to and then gets to around 55% – 65% and stops and sits there, on one occasion for 3 days when I left it to see if it would eventually work. I also noticed during this period the processor usage by FCP X never went above 120-150%.
However if I imported the video into iMovie first and then had FCP X take the imported material from the iMovie folder it worked fine using at times up in excess of 500% – 650% of the available processor power. Also I could see the individual movies being processed in the Background Tasks window which didn’t happen when imported directly.
Another visible artifact of the issue was that as the directly imported movies appeared in the browser window I could not scrub or preview them I only ever got Audio during Playback. However after iMovie Pre-Processing they were available for scrubbing as normal.
I hope this serves to help someone with similar issues and possibly it will be addressed in a future update of FCP X.

It would be even more helpful if you told us what codec the footage was using
