I recently tried to figure out which is the fastest way to finish a project in FCPX and export it as a Quicktime movie. My good old workhorse (two 2.66GHz Dual-core Intel) is a bit outdated, but sports a Radeon 5870. I noticed rather slow render times (background rendering turned off) compared to FCP7, so I thought it would be a good idea to spend some extra cash on compressor and „send“ those projects to this tool. But now for the strange part: whether the project has been fully rendered or not before the share command, compressor seems to recompress every individual frame. And believe me, this operation takes ages on a slow machine like mine.

My current time saver workflow: export directly from FCPX into Quicktime. Processing and transcoding a 1080p project (color correction and filtering applied to every single native XF300 aka XDCAM clip) happens almost on the fly and you end up with a nice and clean ProRes clip. Take this file into compressor, transcode it to your liking and enjoy your spare time.
