Couldn’t expand clip… WTF?
I figured this out, but there’s a strange behavior between your clip appearance and the ability to dig into the audio by expanding the clips.
I couldn’t expand the clips, then realized “Oh yeah, I’ve got the clip appearance set to audio only.
What I found strange was that in clips where I had extended the audio beyond the start of the video, I had no way of seeing it. Hitting CTL-S to expand it did notihing.
Strangely, when in the audio only, it did NOT show me the extended audio.
I was thinking that I could use a workflow where I do the majority of my visual editing, then turn off the pictures to reveal all of my audio, and do all of my audio finessing. But I can’t see all of the audio. It’s hidden under the video, even when I have the video turned off.
I just discovered the ability to expand all of the audio/video clips in the timeline (view/expand audio video clips/for all) to reveal ALL HIDDEN AUDIO! Hooray. But the video has to be turned on in the clip appearance to see it.
I’ll probably use the grand reveal to see all of my audio when I want to finesse the audio, then collapse it all back to a nice neat timeline when I’m done. I’ve already set up keyboard shortcuts to do this.

I’m calling it FCX. They took the “pro” out, so I will too.
