Blur Background?
Posted by Jonathan White on July 14, 2011 at 11:15 amHi, I’ve got some interviews that I’d like to highlight by putting a circular mask around them (with feathering) and blurring the background a bit… in FCP 7 I use looks to do this, is there an easy way in FCPX? Can I use the color corrector masks (outside) with blur somehow?
Thanks,Johnny

July 14, 2011 at 2:06 pmYou just know that Brendan Gibbons is cooking that effect right now. Gaussian Blur with Mask.
You can still use mask and blur the old fashion way though it seems. Find Mask in Keying effects which includes Roundness and Feather. Gaussian Blur in Blur effects. Put one clip over the other.

Is that a challenge I smell ? 😉
This may do the job for you Jonathon.
FCP X BG I’ve got the power….window
– Blur the background
– set of colour controls to adjust background
– set of colour controls to adjust foreground
– adjustable size, position, rotation of window mask
– adjustable feathering of window maskExtract to a folder of your choosing inside /user name / movies / motion templates / Effects
(e.g extract to a new folder called “Custom Effects”)Cheers,
Brendan

July 5, 2013 at 2:44 pmHey, I know this is an older post, but I just downloaded your Motion template, and am not sure how to use it. I’m seeing an arrow image in front of a white vignet. What I would LIKE to do is apply the blur to the area around a subject on a single layer…not have a background layer that this is applied to. Is this possible with this template?
Regardless, how do I remove the arrow image that comes with it?
