FCP X text / adjustment layer preset enabling you to add some layout guidelines over your video. Handy when laying out compositions or text etc.

Add this text over your timeline and activate any needed guidelines. Just a guide though, no snapping functions here. You have positional control over the lines as well.

I know that FCP now has Motions nice snapping controls in the viewer, however sometimes you want to layout elements to your own specifications

    – 5 Vertical Guidelines
    – 5 Horizontal Guidelines
    – HD Safe areas
    – centre cross hair
    – Global opacity control

(e.g extract to a new folder called “Adjustment Layers”)

    Hey Brendan,

That’s so useful, I use a digital Heaven plugin for this purpose in fcp7, so this will be dead right for FCPX.

Is there a way, through opening up in Motion, of changing the colours of the guides as at the moment I am working against a white background.

I have tried to do this but with no affect on your published fx.

Sure, Here is an updated version with a colour slider giving you multiple colour choices.

Sorry, the lack of a colour choice was a bit of an oversight on my behalf. Thanks for the heads up.

    Cheers,

Nice work, Brendan. It’s good to see you’ve embraced FCP X, and are helping others to make it work. A repository of user created plug-ins would be a nice addition to the COW.

Oh and a cup of tea as well please . . .

Before installing vers 2 I had managed to change the colour and the width of the lines through using the HUD.

These were the changeable parameters of the digital heaven plugin.

I hope you are getting some paid work done as well

    Milk and 1 ? 😉

I still can’t believe we actually get paid to do what we do…..so can’t complain.

Yet another great template – was about to do something similar … just not nearly as good!

    Thanks a million!
