January 6, 2019 at 7:20 pmThanks for sharing. I am very glad to come across this essay since I have been studying musical theory recently, trying to incorporate it to my work as an editor. I agree, the obvious way to introduce rythm into a video is to pace it to a musical track, but this is miles away from applying music theory to editing.
I believe a good exercise can be to edit without using any music following a specific musical structure. I believe Vivaldi and Liszt can be very interesting. Also there are is a large number of experimental musicians (minimalist specially) who can provide good ideas and conepts to any film editor.
