    Hello,

I am looking for some feedback on my documentary film trailer. The film is called “The First Patriots” and will be the first ever feature-length documentary on the history of King Philip’s War (a 1675 New England-wide conflict which symbolized the breaking point between The English and their long-time Wampanoag allies. After years of mistreatment at the hands of the English, the Native uprising occured under the direction of Massasoit’s son Metacomet).

    Here is the link.

    Criticism is welcomed!

The audio was poorly done. Ryan probably needs a better microphone. It sounds like noise was removed and what was left was not very good. There seems to be something wrong with the low end. The volume of the voiceover didn’t properly match the rest of the material and the music was often too loud in comparison to the speakers. I had trouble understanding some of it. Perhaps a mid range boost would help.

I could have turned it way up I suppose, but that should not be necessary.

I am not a fan of the change of focus shots and the branches in the very beginning were annoying. I tried to focus and was unable to do so, then I saw why. You might want to rethink the first moments. Grab the viewer.

I liked it. I thought it was appropriate for the subject matter. I liked the tone of the trailer set by the music. It was serious, anguished, and it combined nicely with your choice of visual effects, which were not overdone or over the top. You had to create something compelling using mostly drawings and still images. It’s not easy. Hopefully the doc can measure up to the trailer.

the only thing that stuck out to me was the VO. Sounded like a mix between the director’s roomate and darth vader.
It sets the doc up well tho. If you have battle stuff to offer excitement that may help grab some intrest.

The tinny VO could be attributed to the compression, but the interview subjects were nice and clear. So…yeah…Narrator audio issues.

Compelling…I want to see it. But a lot of the interview subjects had very very boring and bad backgrounds. White wall and a bank lamp? OK…but then light it better. Empty bookshelves? Need compelling BGs…like the Indian guy. He had compelling BG behind him. And it does matter.
