    Hey

i was reading over some of these posts.man i wish i had some time, i’d love to chat. but i am usually at the product forums trying to figure out why my xxxx wont do yyyy.

however, i hope that this might be the place to ask where i can find a checklist for producers to prepare to edit? you know, things like “do you have a list of graphics”? and “have you got all your script notes?” the director-producers i work with think they have been doing it so long its all in their head, but soemthing always gets forgotten!

i searched the web but it seems most checklists are like “have you hired an editor?” and “have you rented gear?”

    thanx in advance

It sounds like you’ll have to make your own. Just sit down & try to think of all the jobs you’ve done that’ve been held up because the client wasn’t properly prepared. Once you’ve got a draft list, save it as a PDF with your letterhead so that you can email it or print it and hand it to every client when you agree to take a job. Make sure that you also save a copy that you can go back & edit, because you’re clients will always come up with some new way of being unprepared!

Off the top of my head:
    Graphics
    Titles
    Lower 3rds
    Charts & graphs
    Music
    Sound effects
    Fonts
    Plug-ins
    Clearances
    Releases
    Sound mix

    Don’t forget “Source tapes.”

    hey arniepix…thanx!

lucky there in house clients (i work at a marketing firm that does video)
however they do have a tendency to treat every job “as if its unique and different then all the others”

How about adding list of credits and any logos and emphasizing proper spelling for the above as well.
