According to Adobe’s help site, in order to lock H/W proportions during resize on a text OR ANY layer in CS4, on a Mac or Windows machine, is to hold Shift+ click-and-drag a handle. I’m using a Mac. When I hold Shift+ click a corner handle to resize, the bound box (is that what it’s called) completely disappears. I don’t have a Windows version of AeCS4 so I can’t try. It works fine in many versions of PS on my Mac and PC. But not in AeCS4.
Is there an option to turn this on/off somewhere?
    Thanks!

    Try Control click instead.

I already tried all other keys. Even key combinations. The keyboard 1% and 10% options work fine, but I need to be able to do it w/ the mouse without distorting proportions.

Are you holding shift before you click? Because that will deselect the layer.

Click on one of the handles on the bounding box, begin dragging and hold shift.
