I have an EPS logo that I’d like to import into AE and have each path be an editable layer..

I’ve read the past posts about this and have tried all the suggestions.. I bring it into AI, select everything and use the ‘Release to Layers’ option. Then I make sure each path is on a layer by itself, like:

    Layer 10
    -Path
    Layer 9
    -Path
    Layer 8
    -Path

    etc

I save as an AI 10 file with PDF compatibility..

But when I bring this into AE, it never gives me the option to keep editable layers (like it does with PDF files) plus it just rasterizes the logo into a single layer and nothing is editable at all..

    What am I missing?

One thought is that your Illustrator document might be a CMYK document, not RGB. After Effects can convert CMYK to RGB, but it flattens/rasterizes the document when it does so.

There’s more information here: “Preparing and importing Ilustrator files”

    Todd,

Thank you for that link, it helps..

I didn’t have the ‘Preserve Paths’ option checked in my options (I never use AI)..

All paths now layered with smooth/sharp lines in AE!

    Thanks!!
