Oculus rift with fcpx
Posted by Tom Sefton on October 16, 2017 at 9:46 pmHas anyone here used the oculus rift with fcpx or fusion, or even Adobe premiere? Specifically with a Mac, and if so how did it go?

October 17, 2017 at 7:27 amYes was hoping to use this – does it work ok for full stereo VR, and are there any limitations to playback with the new Mac Pro?
Got some large projects coming up requiring stereo VR delivery and either need to use fcpx all the way through or offload to fusion, which I’m unsure as to its support for oculus via the Mac.

October 27, 2017 at 11:56 amTo put it simply, it just doesn’t work. The Dashwood drivers haven’t been updated in nearly a year and the Oculus drivers were released in 2015 and only work with the DK2 device. I’ve tried on 2 separate Mac Pro systems and with both drivers and oculus installed it causes massive crashes after a few minutes. Even running parallels, the rift won’t detect the GPU in the Mac Pro 2013.
The best I could get was the rift being used as an external display for FCPX but the tracker not working, and then after a few minutes full system crash.
I can’t believe that I need to buy a new PC….!

Hopefully some kind of future VR update will be coming soon that makes this easier, along with some official Mac OS drivers for Oculus Rift too.
