So I’ve got some HDV greenscreen footage (I know, I know….) I’m looking at in AE CS3, and I’m trying to get several different comps to line up in the viewer so I can flip between them to look at differences in the chroma sampling. I use the arrow keys to just nudge them in position when I realize something.

Obviously, I’m moving the image inside the comp, but it’s not moving on a pixel-by-pixel level; it’s instead being moved at a sub-pixel level. The pixels stay where they are in the comp, but when I nudge the layer with the arrows those fixed pixels appear to change luminance and color, changing the image. They original pixels aren’t mapping to new positions.

Are they simply fading to the next 1/16th gradient level between the old pixel and new pixel? What exactly is going on with the image?
