Cool “one take” video.
Posted by Charlie Austin on August 8, 2014 at 3:14 pmWell, a bunch of one take shots anyway.Poster’s description: “Edited in FCPX with lots of retiming. Filmed with 5DM3 mounted on a Defy G5.” Really well done, regardless of the gear… There’s a lot going on, worth a full screen look.

August 8, 2014 at 4:01 pmWhat gear this was done with is inconsequential compared to the idea and the amount of effort it must have taken to coordinate that whole thing. That’s what really impressed me.

“Completely agree. That took some serious choreography/storyboarding.

August 8, 2014 at 7:57 pmI agree that was very well done and a true masterpiece.
Music was hypnotic saying, “Your eyes are getting heavy, relax, you are now under my control. You will love to learn to edit in FCP X, you will exist without tracks, editing will be fun.”
Well, at least that is what it is telling me and yes, I am sober. 🙂
I am an avid user of FCP X!

Me too! FCP X is amazing!!!***
***Disclaimer: That was a tongue in cheek comment! Fact is, you could probably have cut this in iMovie
The amazing part is the planning and choreography that went into it. I wonder how many takes it took to do each shot? Yikes. Let’s all pay homage to “Rope” (which I believe was edited with razor blades and sticky tape) for these types of things. 🙂

August 8, 2014 at 10:02 pmThat’s the BGI main campus in Denmark.
Looks like a boarding school that’s a pretty decent place for someone sports oriented to get an education.
Particularly since while it’s a private school, those pesky Danes have a voucher system that allows qualified students access and does NOT saddle them with student loans that they have to take 25 years to work off.
And overall Denmark gets pretty decent educational outcomes…
“The Education Index, published with the UN’s Human Development Index in 2008, based on data from 2006, lists Denmark as 0.993, amongst the highest in the world, tied for first with Australia, Finland and New Zealand.[4]”
The US is ranked 21st.
And yes, they’re learning to edit in FCP X.
Go figure.

Umm… whoever made that video was not “learning to edit” regardless of what they edited it in.

The production company was an outfit called GotFat Video.
Started up in 2008 apparently.
And you’re right if your contention is that what makes the video isn’t so much the editing (largely retiming and simple cuts on action) but rather the excellent planning, talent coordination and execution.
The real keys to great video – as it’s always been, and ever will be.
The website notes it only too 4 “takes.”
Very impressive.

August 9, 2014 at 1:53 amSimple cuts on action? I did see one person run through a hallway that was right in the middle of the dance floor. If you look at it there is the shot of the hallway tracked and matted onto a flat or possibly just a frame.
Also pretty impressive when the camera exits a doorway and starts riding a bike pretty seamlessly. It’s impressive.

Yeah, other than the way the end result makes it look… nothing really simple about this. Even the cuts on the cards are pretty much seamless.
