OT: Google Drive or Hightail (YouSendit as was)
So my subscription for Hightail is due soon. Just wondering whether to jump ship into Google’s arms? Thoughts / experiences?

Personally, I prefer wetransfer.com. I was a yousendit subscriber too, but I think their subscription fee is too high, compared to the costs and benefits of other services. For shared folder access, I think my favorite is still skydrive, although I also use googledrive and dropbox.

One of my clients, a very large corporation, has firewall issues with Google Drive. Better success with Hightail (though not perfect). I think Google gives you more for your $$. Hightail lets you see when/if the file was downloaded. Uploading with Hightail is the best, as it’s “fire and forget” – don’t need to keep a browser window open. Google Drive has all more options/flexibility beyond simply file transfers.
Bottom line – if I could get my files to my client via Google, I’d drop Hightail. But not because I’ve had issues.

I’ve been using yousendit / Hightail for years now and apart from a couple of occasion when the service has gone down for unexplained reasons it has served us well.
With online delivery being the main way that our work is delivered now you need to use something that you can rely on and that is easy to use. All regular contacts are now stored in it’s database so uploading files to our clients is a doddle.
I also like that you get confirmation that the file has been delivered to the recipient and that you can also check how many times it has been downloaded or not.
It’s also possible to set the time limit on how long files are stored for. It might well be that other file transfer providers offer the same services but I’ve yet to come across them.
So I’ll stick with Hightail unless it starts getting unreliable.

Thanks everyone – Ok, so I might be tempted to stay another year – it has been pretty reliable so far and perhaps use Google drive as a fallback solution for now. I also like the way it (HT) gives you the connection speed whilst it uploads, which I can’t find on the others. Thanks again.

I’l throw in my 2¢. I use Dropbox. I can email a client a link and they can download it without having a Dropbox account. If they have an account we can set up a shared folder for the length of a project.
Great way to get them h.264s for review.

We have a HT subscription – particularly like the unlimited storage space with no time limit – do other services offer this? Cheers Ken.
