    Hello all i’m new both to this board and to the After effects program but i’m hoping i can get a push in the right direction

    i’m looking for help on getting the lightning flash effect similar to the back ground movie on this site https://www.halo3.com/

    any help would be greatly apperciated

    There is a preset in I believe either the backgrounds or synthetic catgeory that will get you pretty close to this. I would use that as a starting point.

    well that seemed to help with the flowing nebula effects but what i’m really looking for is help on the random subtle flashes of lightning.
    (trying to do a thunderstorm motion background)

    I’ve been trying to layer it between two layers of clouds with no success.

    any suggestions?

    A soft masked white layer set to add, then using expressions use the wiggle command….should look someting like this:

    wiggle(15,30)

    try it out….the first number in brackets is the frequency, the second number is the range of the wiggle (0-30)…the again I am by no means all that proficient in expressions.
