Favourites Folder
Hi,
is there a way like in my beloved Legacy, to create a Folder for my Favourite Effects and one for my Fav Transitions and Audio Plugs?

That’s really a bummer. It slows down a lot. Pity, because in so many things FCPX is faster,
but that is definitely a break on the speed wheel.

Again, time to start clearing your head of the “to have what I want, it has to be like it was in Legacy” mode.
You want to save “favrotites” in X? It’s dirt simple.
Create one or more “dummy” events. Put anything you want to re-use in them.
I have a dummy “voiceover workshop” event. It’s got tones, countdowns, pre-recordings, all sorts of stuff that makes it easier for me to assemble voiceovers. It’ lives at the top of my Event Browser. Whenver I need to do VO work, it’s my “favorites” bin.
It’s NEW thinking that works great in X. Trying to make X work like your OLD thinking generally leads you to think you can’t do things that you CAN do – simply because you’re trying to do them the old way – rather than opening your thinking to see how the new way might enable you to do even MORE than you used to be able to do with a concept like “Favorites”
Cuz, you know, now those “favorites” in the event browser are sortable, searchable, and applicable across as many projects as you like, forever.

So I assume your saying yes to the original question, even though you are describing a media folder and the original poster was talking about an effects folder?

“I’m talking about using the way X actually functions to save the metadata state of anything – any “state” of a construction including an edit, an effect, an audio echo setting, whatever – as a “recipe” into the Event Browser.
Once there, you can search out that metadata state and apply it to ANYTHING else.
So what’s the point of an “effects folder” other than to just make someone who is used to them feel more comfortable from an visual or organizational standpoint?
Those “folders” were dumb. The database in X and the Event Browsers use of it is NOT DUMB at all. It’s powerful. So you can not only preserve a thing, but search and sort and find and combine and version and ammed that thing in the database.
Or you can stick with a “folder” that sits somewhere and if you’re really, real lucky, the interface designer will give you a way to turn it blue or pink so you can feel more comfortable.
Nothing wrong with the ability to turn something blue or pink, BTW. It’s just part of the sideshow – NOT any part of adding extra POWER to the way the software works.
No reason NOT to have it. But most of us would NEVER give up database sort – in favor of dumb color labeling. That just doesn’t make ANY sense once you’ve had the real deal.

I can feel your frustration.
I’ve requested changes in the FX Browser, which to me is the most, dare I say it, iMovie feature within FCPX.
I would like a total split between Audio and Video FX and also the ability within the application of disabling / removing all the guff that I will never use or havel already used and won’t ever again.
I’m just wondering whether Digital Rebellion’s ‘Pro Maintenance Tools’ might be able to fulfil some of these functions as it has a plugin manager which as it says

Allows you to quickly and easily organize your editing system plugins. You can group them together, install new plugins and selectively enable and disable them – all without having to worry about where the plugins are physically located on disk.Supports Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Pro X, Avid Media Composer, Avid Symphony and Adobe Premiere Pro”
It costs $139.
Alternatively one could physically remove unwanted plugins from the various Motion Templates Folders and place them in a temporary folder outside of the Movies Folder.

Speed. My Legacy Favorite Effects folder has a space on my desktop and is always visible. If I need one of the 14 or so effects I use very frequently I simply drag and drop it on a clip. If I first had to do a search to find that effect, then that would slow me down dramatically, which is the beauty of a specific “favorite effects” folder. Being totally ignorant of X, but listening to what other users are asking for I assume putting effects onto dummy media and storing it in an event (which I believe is what you are describing) is not as fast, or is it? Just asking, no agenda.

For favorites of filters, text, generators, etc, you can use a dummy project timeline. Not sure there’s a great organizational structure available, though.
I can’t see how to use it to store favorite transitions (that is, can’t see how to copy from one timeline to another).
Ideas on these?
