How do I achieve basic transparency on exporting to FLV?
I’m new to After Effects (but having fun learning!), experienced with Flash (AS3 development, etc).
On a current projecct, I want to add some cool visual elements to my Flash movie. One idea I read about was to make small FLV’s with transparent background and then play then in the FLA.
But I’m having trouble even making a small transparent FLV.
I thought the following would be very simple:
0) create a new composition, 20pixels x 20pixels, 02s15f in time.
1) create a shape layer (an ellipse)
2) Do Layer->Mask->New Mask, and then change the shape of the mask to “ellipse”, thus (I’d thought) exporting my ellipse shape against a transparent background (mask size/shape == ellipse size/shape).I wasn’t sure whether to use “Export FLV” or “Make Movie” with FLV setting. I tried both. On both I set the settings to include alpha channel. If I do “make movie” I get a long error (“AEGP Plugin Meida IO Plugin: There is a mismatch between Output Module settings and transcode settings Please verify your settings and try again. Property Data Invalid! Meida102 error: 0x400e0004. Frame dimensions out of bounds.”)
If I export FLV the FLV is exported, but nothing shows up in MPEG Streamclip (playing FLV) — and Flash CRASHES when I try to import the FLV.
I tried this on a colleague’s computer — same thing.
Obviously I’m missing the most obvious of obvious. I’ve worked through an AE book and have some basic understanding of it (or thought I did!).
How can I create small FLV elements for use, with alpha backgrounds (transparent backgrounds)?
Best
Robert
