RED are dropping their announcements at the moment as well. You guys at NAB are going to be busy!

April 8, 2013 at 10:52 amImagine how someone might feel who just received delivery on the Blackmagic camera they ordered in 2012. No worries though, their new cameras won’t be delivered until 2016

Whatever the wait, it won’t ever be like for the REDs.

Let us know when RED has a $4000 camera.
How is that a comparison?
Low budget indy filmmakers will have tools to shoot in a robust gradable codec. -

We haven’t had our camera long and I don’t care, we made the price back in 2 jobs! My bet is you’ll be seeing plenty of these cameras this year. BMD may have dropped the ball on the first one through no fault of their own, I’m betting this time they won’t.

April 8, 2013 at 12:13 pmWow! Sounds too good to be true.
I’m hardly a camera expert, but this sounds like a game-changer to me. An incredibly affordable 4k camera with a 35mm sensor? I’m waiting to hear the downside…

Craig,
I wan’t comparing cameras.
I was talking about the waiting time from announcement to release.
Epic and Scarlet took years.

As may Blackmagic (take years) or are you saying BM is faster at delivery than RED. I assumed you meant they were slower.

April 8, 2013 at 2:05 pmIt took over 3 years and 4 NAB’s for Red to show a Scarlet – which of course was nothing like the design/price of the original announcement. I think BMD can do better than that 🙂

They started to talk about Epic and Scarlet soon after they released the first RED ONE (2007).
They didn’t start shipping till 2011.
