  Help.. is my macbook pro not fast enough to run AE??

  Hi,

  I’m currently using a Macbook Pro as my work computer. No problems with Photoshop, etc., but After Effects CS3 is a different issue. My mac is extremely slow when I’m working in AE. It’s really affecting the worflow, and I wanted to make sure if this MBP is AE-friendly. If not, I need to request a desktop mac. Here is the specs for the MBP:

  – MacBook Pro 15″ C2D 2.2 GHz
  – 30″ Cinema Display
  – 120GB internal drive, 250GB external firewire
  – 4GB RAM
  – OS 10.4.10
  – Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB

  Appreciate any info or advice.

  Thanks for the response Dave. I’m definitely not a newcomer to AE, and understand how it processes frames, etc.. However, I was concerned whether I was handicapping myself by my setup, especially driving a 30″ monitor with my laptop. I wasn’t sure if this was a problem, and that’s why I was reaching out to the experts.

  Your question isn’t about an AE technique or power feature, etc., it is simply a question about the fundamentals of After Effects usage. What part of this would keep it from being quite appropriate for the fundamentals forum?

  Also, we have a search engine and there are many questions about computer set-ups and dream machines for AE that have pertinent feed-back that you can dredge up and learn from.
