I Got My New MacPro This Week!
And I didn’t need any cheap Chinese labor from Foxconn, I put it together all by myself! (with my wife cheering me on!)
The Recipe:
1. (1) 2008 8 core MacPro with 10GB of RAM
2. 8GB RAM upgrade kit from Crucial.
3. (1) ATI 5770 video card from my favorite VAR.
4. (1) BMD Intensity ProI thought about a new laptop or iMac, but I would have to buy a lot a peripherals to get my my 2 external RAIDS and 3 internal drives in my MacPro a new home. Plus a laptop is probably in the future but I wasn’t ready to make it my primary editing computer (though I have no doubt it would perform better than my MP in most instances} So I just put some money into Ole Faithful and have been very pleased.
I wish I didn’t have to buy the Intensity Pro, but I am in a 90% tapeless workflow, with only 1 client using DV which I bring in through my Sony HDV deck, and AJA has EOL my Kona Lhe, which I can’t use with CS6 or FCPX, so I bought the cheapest good monitoring card I could. I don’t expect to be editing on this setup in 2 years, but it should keep going until Apple releases it’s next new Awesomeness!
