  render trouble in 8.0

  I’m just learning AE and on my first assignment I can’t get the entire project to render even though it plays back fully in both the output comp window and the nested comp window. Several layers go missing during rendering and my motion path hangs up, skips keyframes, & generally renders inaccurately. Is there some basic thing I’m missing/forgetting to do before nesting the one comp inside the other? We are using 1 Ghz G-5 computers, not a lot of RAM to go around, don’t know if that can botch the contents of the render. Thanks!
