  Problem: Color distortion in Handling and Playback in FCP X

  Good Evening!

  I installed the Final Cut Pro X with no problem. But after importing the videos (.Mov and ProRes codec) it’s colors are altered, completely distorted of the original, both in playblack when handling.
  These same videos, while in other editing programs or reproduction (imovie, quicktime …) do not exhibit any change in color.
  Someone tell me what happens?

  Make sure you disabled all the automatic import functions, like automatic color balance.

  Check to make sure ColorSync is correctly set.

  Should be in Display in System Preferences. Use the default color setting and see if that helps, but it sounds as if you didn’t change it.

  You screenshot shows the project, but the image looks like the one in the browser. Very weird.

  Select that clip and open the inspector. Anything on that clip?

  Where did you do the ProRes transcodes?

  Since FCPX can handle the source files, import those directly and compare. If the source (H.264 .mov most likely) looks OK then it’s something amiss with the ProRes encode.

  Next, call up the Waveform scope (also might check Histogram) and see if the scopes match what you see vs what you believe it to be. If the scopes look good there’s something about how you’re displaying things (monitor). If the scopes show a “compressed” signal (raised blacks and or low whites) then it would be processing issue.

  Test both the source and ProRes files in Quicktime 10 as well. That may let you know if the issue is specific to FCPX or a system issue.
