Making a logo 3d
I’m using AE CS3 and I’m importing a photoshop file of a logo which I need to be 3d. However, I can’t figure out a good way to give it z-depth. I’ve seen plugins from Zaxwerks which don’t seem to do what I need. I’ve also seen the option to make multiple layers with a slight difference in the z position of each. This has been rather cumbersome. Are there any other options out there?

Actually Shatter can add depth to a layer, it’s worth a look, here’s a tut:

I just swapped-in a psd of a fern (cutout with alpha) into Roland’s project (for his COW_header.jpg) and it works just fine.
Basically, set Shatter to:
View: Rendered
Shape>Extrusion Depth: Set to how many pixels in thickness you want the z depth
Force 1: 0
Force 2: 0
Physics>Gravity: 0Textures>SideMode: Can be a layer, color or other combo
Camera>Camera System: Comp Camera is usually handiest if you want to add your own camera
Lighting can be a bit of a pain sometimes, I usually drop Lighting>Light Intensity to zero, then raise Lighting>Ambient Light to one. Or you can just use Rolands’s handy-dandy expressions.

You can also add a little Bevel Alpha to round the edges.

Thanks. The shatter effect is just what I was looking for.

But what if you want to take that now 3D object and put it inside a compisition with a camera? It’s like the two cameras (the one from Shatter and the one in the other compisition) aren’t working together.
So the question is, how do you render a 3D object that will still be 3D when you move a camera around it?
