    Greetings,

I’ve got an issue regarding text animation. I’m working on a project in Premiere Pro. I used the Premiere titler to do some basic text dissolves, etc, but would like to see some of the AE animation presets for comparison sake.

The reason I’m posting this here and not the Premiere forum is because I can’t seem to get the animations to work…at all! I don’t mean in my Premiere project, I mean at all! I just wanted to open a new composition, create a text layer, and try the animations, but can’t get that to work. The effect drags onto the layer, but nothing happens.

I’m sure I’m overlooking something very simple. If someone could just point me in the right direction, I’d greatly appreciate it. First, on simply animating text…and then on applying it to the Premiere project. I have searched for the topic, and I’ve looked through ‘help’ as well as the manual….no luck!

    Thanks in advance.

If you’re working in After Effects 6.5 or 7 it could be as simple as making sure the playhead is at the In point of the layer before applying the animation preset. The keyframes for presets are applied starting at the playhead’s current position.

If you just want to see what the presets look like, go to ANIMATION > Browse Presets and it’ll open a window that shows all the presets for text and background animation and etc. You can apply presets to the selected layer directly from Bridge by double clicking on the one you want.

Hope that helps and that I’m not completely misunderstanding your problem. 🙂

Yes, that helps, and you do understand the problem! Thanks much.

The plot has ‘thickened’ somewhat. I was following the proper procedure, but have discovered it was the particular effect that is giving me trouble.

I used the Browse Presets function you mentioned, which is where I found the effect I was interested in. It’s in the ‘Lights & Optical’ folder, and it’s called ‘Emerge’. This is the effect I attempted to use from the beginning. When I finally decided to try others, such as some of the animate in options, they all worked fine.

But that particular one, as well as others I’ve discovered since, won’t work for me. Could it be some sort of special mask setting or something? Could there extra steps necessary?

PS: I’m working with AE 7.0

Thanks again for the input. I’m very much a novice, so I appreciate all the help I can get!

I just tried Emerge effect myself and it didn’t do too much for me either. Which is a shame because it’s a really cool looking effect in the preview.

I did mess with the text animation settings and when I changed the Fill & Stroke method to “All Strokes Over Fills,” I got an effect that looks somewhat like the preview. (This will only work if you have a stroke on the text to begin with.)
